Service area (world area forecast system) = A geographical area within which a regional area forecast centreis responsible for supplying area forecast to meteorological authorities and other users.
Service Bulletin (SB) = The only document issued by the manufacturer to notify the airline of recommended modifications, substitution of parts, special inspections/checks, reduction of existing lite Iimits or establishment of tirst time lite Iimits and conversion from one engine model to another.
Service, City terminal = The surface carriage of consignments between carriers city handling station and the airport of departure or destination, as the case may be.
Service commitments = Pickup and/or delivery commitment agreed to by air carrier and shipper.
Service delivery = The carriage ot inbound consignments from the airport ot destination to the adress of the consignee or that of his designated agent or to the custody of the appropriate Government agency when required.
Service Pick up = The carriage of outbound consignments from the point of pick-up to the airport of departure.
Servicing = Any act Ct replenishment for the purpose of maintaining the inherent design operating capabilities of an item.
Settlement Oftice = The office which, on behalf of CASS Airlines, issues billings to, and receives remittance trom, agents. lt then distributes the monies to those airlines.

SGCAS = Study Group on Certification of Automatic Systems.
SGIT = Special group inclusive tour.
SHF = Super high frequencies.
Shipment = Means one or more pieces of goods accepted by the carrier from one shipper at one time and at one address, receipted for in one Iot and moving on one AWB to one consignee at one destination address.
Shipper = Equivalent to the terrn Consignor, means the person whose name appears on tne AWB as the party contracting with the carrier(s) for carriage of goods.
Shipper = Term used to describe exporter. Mostly manufacturing companies.
Shippers account numher An identifying number issued by e carrier accounting office to identify a shipper and/or consignee.The number ensures accurate invoicing procedures and customer traffic activity.
3 Shippers exportation declaration = Form required for ali U.S. exports with deciared value for U.S. Customs greaterthan $ 1,000. Also required for shipments requiring a U.S. Department of State license regardiess of value of goods. Prepared by a shipper indicating the value, weight, destination, and other basic information about the shipment.
3 Shippers Ietter of instruction (SII) = The document containing instruction by shipper or shippers agent for preparing documents and forwarding.
Shippers letter al instruction = A form used by a shipper to authorize an airline to issue an air waybilL on the shippers behalf. The forni contains all detaiLs of shipment and authonizes the airline I to sign the air waybill in the name of the shipper.
Shipping documents = Documents other than transportation receipts ortransportation contracts, required to enable shipments to be forwarded or received.
Shop visit engine = An engine removai is ciassified as a shop visit whenever the subsequent engine maintenance pertormed prior to reinstaliation entaiis one of the following: a) separation of pair of major mating engine flanges, or b) removai of a disk, hub, or spool.
Shoreline = A me foiiowing the generai contour of the shore, except that in cases of inlets or bays iess than 30 nautical miLes in windth, the me shaii pass directiy accross the iniet or bay to intersect the generai contour on the opposite side.
Shoulder = An area adjacent to the edge of a pavement so prepared as to provide a transition between the pavement and the adjacent surface.
SHPR = Shipper. SHPT = Shipment.
Shutdown lnfiight = An engine shutdown which occurs at any time an aircraft is airborne or has been committed to becoming airborne
Si = Stop in transit (Charges Code).

Siemens (S) = The electric conductance of a condictor in which a current of 1 ampere is producet by an electric potential difference of 1 volt.
SIF Selective identification feature.
Signment Information = information issued by a meteorological watch office coricerning the occurrence or expected occurrence of specified en-route weather phenomena which may aff ect the safety of aircraft operations.
Signal area = An area on an aerodrome used for the display of ground signals.
Signal reliahility = The probability that a signal-in-space of specified characteristics is available to the aircraft.
Signature service = A service designed to provide continuous responsibility for the cistody of shipments in transit, so named because a signature is required from each person handling the shipment at each stage of its transit from origin to destination.
Significant obstacle = Any natural terrain feature or man-made fixed object, permanent or temporary, wich has vertical significance in relation to adjacent and surrounding features and which is considered a potential hazard to the safe passage of aircraft in the type of operation for which the individual chart series is designed.
Significant point = A specified geographical location used in defining an ATS route or the flight path of an aircraft and for other navigation and ATS purposes.
Signing a maintenance release = To certify that the inspection and maintenance work has been compieted satisfactorily in accordance with the methods precribed in the Maintenance Manual by issuing the maintenance release referred to in Annex 6.
Simplex = A method in which telecomunication between two stations takes piace in one direction at a time.
Single entity charter = A non-scheduled flight carrying the cargo of one shipper.
SITA = internationai Society for Aeronautical Telecomunications.
SITC = One of a number of numerical commodity codes developed by the United Nations.
SLI = Shippers Letter of lnstruction.
SmalI Package Service = A specialized service to guarantee the delivery of small parcels within specified express time limits, e.g. same day or next day. This traffic is subject to size and weight limitations. Air carriers that also transport passengers will accept these packages at the airport ticket counters with delivery at destination baggage claim area. Many carriers provide door-to-door service on a 24-hour basis.
SMAV = Automatic flight control system.
SMGCS = Study Group on Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems.
SMR = Surface Movement Radar Study Group.
SNAG = A known or suspected malfunction of defect found by flight crew or maintenance personnel which is documented and requires maintenance action.

Software operational = All software that is resident in an on-board system.
SOIR = Study Group on Simultaneous Operations on Parallel or near-Parallel lnstrument Runways.
South Pacific rates = Apply between the South Atlantic Area and points in AIA Area 2.
South Pacific rates = Apply between points in AIA Area 1 and points in the S. W. Pacific Area.
SP Separate Early Release Charges Codes.
Spare aircraft on ground (AOG) = The highest priority designation to process a requirement for a spare part(s) and/or maintenance action. Indicates that an aircraft is unable to continue or be returned to revenue service until the appropriate action Is taken.
Sparo critical = Priority designation to process a requirement for a spare part. lndicates imminent AOG or work stoppage.
Spare expedite = Priority designation to process a requirement for a spare part. indicates tha head time is to be less than quoted or pubilshed. |
